The reports coming in from PA are that ticks are out and heavy. I would have thought it might be a tad early but thats not the case. Beware everyone these little things are nasty and the lime tick especially so. While the large wood ticks are creepy enough the smaller lime tick with the red abdomen can carry lime disease. Duct tap and tick spray for me while working up the food plots will be in order.
Have not been in the woods lately but the weather is prime for there to be a lot of ticks for sure. The reason I say this is last season almost every time out there were two or three on me even until the end of december and I live in the northeast.
yep.. I hate ticks.. Hopefully the chickens running around the yard will take care of the ones close to the house.. I check before showering the rest of the time if im out and about..
I've never used it but I have heard of others using it as a topical solution in cream form to kill ticks.
BUT You should look into using Diazinon concentrate to treat your lawns horses can get Lyme disease just like us so you ned to take all steps possible to keep the home area safe from ticks and fleas.
whatever the spelling you buy the spray at cabelas you spray it on your cloths not skin and it kills the ticks when they touch it.i make a whole setup.socks, overalls long sleeve shirt ,gloves and hat.the stuff last about 6 weeks and you can even wash it but i dont.i use this for my turkey gear and i also wear a leafy bug suit.we have TONS of ticks and i dont get bit:wink:
Permethrin is no joke. It is standard issue for anyone in the army that is deploying to a "tick infested" area. It is sprayed on to your clothes (DO NOT PUT IT ON YOU!!!) and will stay in them for several months and roughly about 20 cycles through the wash. Also, it does not kill ticks as much as it repels them. Keep in mind that it is easily smelled by deer, coyotes and the like. It is not really meant for hunters trying to be un-noticed in the woods, but for people that are outdoors to stay tick free. I used to give the briefs to all deploying soldiers about anything medical and Permethrin was one of the main topics. As an avid hunter in Louisana and Texas where ticks are very common I do not use it. It is one more way for my quarry to evade me. I just check for the little buggers when I get back home. Good luck.
according to the manufacturer its odorless when dry i have have never noticed any smell but im no deer,i use it for turkey season mostly and my bug suit for deer season
I was tilling in some chicken crap on my garden yesterday and noticed 1 of those ticks making his way up my arm.. A few mins later after I set him on fire I continued tilling.. Came inside and took my chicken crap smelling shirt off and had another tick dug in on my shoulder.. Burnt him too.. Ticks have to be attached for awhile for them to transfer lyme disease. Thats why I am sure to check nightly when Ive been out in the yard or woods..
