Talked to my good hunting buddy in the up of Michigan tonight and the report is not good. They are seeing fair numbers of dead deer already from starvation. With 2 months to go for deep snow things could be really bad. When you add in the high wolf, spring bear kills, coyote and hunter kills the short term hunting may be slim pickings like this past fall was up there in archery season. Time will tell how bad the winter kill becomes.
Winter severity is a reality but as sad as it is, the dead carcasses do manage to keep the predators away from the survivors long enough to survive the remainder of winter.
Lets hope that's an accurate theory....
I agree Bruce Seems winter kill Here in NH & VT is not big news here as we lose a good # of deer to it & seems to keep the predators from the healthy ones asked a game warden in western NY what their winter kill was & said close to 0% was kinda amazed by that but don't have to go far south to see the difference may look like this winter will affect a lot of states
