Hunting club rules

I am new to this group....from Deep South ...our family
Owns over 3500 acres of prime river swamp pty
This property has been in the family for over 100 years
And is owned by family corporation. I am president of
The corporation. We have several rogue family members
who will not abide by the rules.....

The major problem is a that a few family members can
Not seem to keep full time job...but come hunting season
Are in the woods EVERYDAY.......and when not hunting
Just ride roads

We have rules.....fines do not work....b/c the rogue members
Do not work and have financial problems

Looking for some good ideas to deal with these rouge
Family members and effective ways to enforce

Thanks ..any and all suggestions greatly appreciated

1st off welcome to DHC from NH
& hope you stick around great people & information here
am I right to assume these rouge members are part of the corporation?
are any of their names on the deed?
are your rules in writing
if you can't do fines how about suspensions?

Thanks for quick response

Yes rogue members are on deed and
Are minority shareholders

We are in rural county ... One game warden

Suspensions do not seem to work
All other members work ...rogues
Know when they can go in b/c no
One watching...thought about hiring
Someone... But once again small
Rural county ... Everyone knows
Everyone

I have thought about court order
To enjoin rogues from propery

gfdeputy2 08-25-2013 11:29 AM

I think it may be hard to do anything unless they have all signed agreements to the rules if so court process may be the only way to go

Thanks... We have five locked gates for our property

Would you suggest getting new keys and distributing
New keys ONLY after signing of rules?

I know I keep bringing up small county... The local judges
Are frequent guests ...Would make court action more
Difficult

On key issue...if member does not sign....

gfdeputy2 08-25-2013 11:46 AM

Changing the keys may be a good thing. If you are going to draw up basicly a contract I would also contact a lawyer before you change the keys
being that their names are on the deeds it is their land too
There maybe nothing you can do to stop them from being Rouge
seems like a real tough situation really sometimes stinks dealing with family
Wish you the best in luck
also wait to hear from other members here someone may be able to help you better slow time of the year here as everyone is preping for hunting season should be picking up soon

Greetings from Vermont & Welcome to the Club... the only way to handle this is through an ATTORNEY, I am NOT a lawyer but I think if the rogue members names are on the deed and it's only my belief but, they have "Full and Equal" access to and usage of the land, just as well as all the other family members who are on the deed, regardless of any rules. If this were my situation, I would try to muster money from the family members who do cooperate and hope the rogues would be willing to sell off their share of the land (to buy them out) but as long as they're on the deed I'd bet you're screwed and can't do a thing about it... Good Luck and keep us posted on this...

Welcome to the DHC! First off, when dealing with family, I would encourage you to compromise and eventually just live with it. I know you don't want to hear that, but what they do in their life is really none of your business. I say that, no in a disrespectful way, but I have to deal with this with some of my family. I have relatives that feel strongly towards others in our family who do not work or "mooch" off others. My thought about this is, yes it does stink and I don't like it, but what can I do about it? It's their life and all I can do is be there for them. I may not agree with what they are doing (or lack of doing) but the bottom line is they are family and that means something to me.

Now on your situation, like BB said, if their names are on the deed I find it hard to believe you can do anything based on them not having a job. I don't see how a lawyer in court could have an argument based on you not wanting them there just because they are there frequently as a result of not having a job. The bottom line is they are on the deed, therefore they are doing nothing wrong being there. It sounds to me like there is some greed coming into this situation. Once again, I do not mean any disrespect, I'm just saying what I feel.

Ultimately, I would encourage you to talk to your family and hash out a plan or a deal. I can tell you from first hand experience that going behind their back and taking legal action (or trying to) can make things REALLY bad-- not only for you but for EVERYONE in the family and especially for those who wish to remain non-sided. Family is something you can't buy. I realize you wish your family members were people who gave back to society, but sometimes you don't always get that when dealing with family.

Good luck and once again, I mean you no disrespect. Let me know what happens....
