Hellbilly I took your advice and removed the drain plug on the cooler to drain the blood while it chills and its smell is now normal. Thanks for the advice. I was really worried it was gonna all go to waste.

Default Hocks

Can somebody show me a picture of this hock gland you guys are talking about.I don't know if the species of deer we have here on Guam have them.I have never had a smell or odor come from the leg area.I know ours have a gland right below their eyes that they rub on branches. But I like that idea of taking the hocks and tying them to your boots when you walk to your spot.I sometimes take out the pee sack and put it in an old spray bottle and stick it in the freezer for later use.Just spray some on my clothes and go.

The gland we're referring to, located on rear legs at the inside of the knee. The bucks urinate on them during the rut which blackens them and strong smell.. I'm not sure if another buck would scent follow a trail of another buck. If estrus doe scent is added to the hock dragging then maybe this would mimic the rut action and cause a buck to follow????? It's not something I've ever done or wanted to mess with. The hocks should be removed as a final job, do not cut any meat with the knife until you clean it.

I've only ever used doe urine so makes sense about another buck coming in unless you want to attract a doe or maybe doing what he did and rattle.I wouldn't know totally different over here.I've never rattled.

This year I didn't have to do any rattling as the bucks were moving pretty well in PA. To tell the truth, I have Michigan doe & buck meat as well as PA buck meat in the freezer and if I served them together no one could tell the difference.

I'll look n see if I still got the pics of me removing the glands, I love to use them as drags walking to the stand an hang them on a branch when I get there, better than any bought sent out I think. Can use them for about a week but must keep in the fridge when not using
