New knife?
 

I currently use a Buck knife 119, I believe. I am not thrilled with the blade or lack of holding, sharpening an edge. I am thinking of a Ka-Bar Mark 1. any opinions on that particular knife?

sorry im not familiar with the Ka-Bar knives and i'm not positive but i think the 119 buck knife is fairly large.
I prefer smaller knifes in the field, bulky knifes just don't work well for me,

I don't know the size of your knife,but after field dressing more than 60 deer I like a 3 and 1/2 inch blade,especially when you get both hands and the knife up in the neck area to sever the windpipe and pull the organs out without cutting yourself.

Bruce you are correct I own a 119 it is a 101/2 in blade I do not use it for field dressing deer way to big for that I use a Kershaw 1790 which works really good
still need to becareful with out a gut hook

I'm with BB, no experience with K-bar. After building some new knives this past year, I think I will try one of the new ones this year. They are all fixed blades.
