Crossbow question

I have a Wicked Ridge Invader crossbow. The guy at the shop recmmended putting a little gun oil on the bolt rail to lubricate the string when an arrow is fired. This is to protect the bolt rail and string from excess wear. My question is; Could graphite be used to serve the same purpose? It would seem that over time the build up of graphite on the rail and string would be better for this than oil. Opinions?
