Default Rattling in October?

Will bucks respond to rattling in October?

If the bucks are feeling froggy. Fighting over territory etc. If the bucks are splitting up already than it may not be a bad time to try a rattle every now and then.

bucks have already moved out of bachelor groups as far as I can tell, I've even seen some chasing already.

Seems a bit early even for the northern deer. Never can tell though when mother nature sends the signal. In PA we generally see some buck response starting around Oct 26, however, things really turn on around Nov 5th. Ohio weather is warming up to the 80's this weekend so that never helps. I would think right now feeding routes are still the way to go, followed by rub lines as soon as you can locate them.

it is a little early for rattling BUT if you're seeing some chasing taking place It might not be a bad idea to try some light trickle rattling just dont go overboard and start bangin out aggressive rattling. Good Luck

The buck I shot this past weekend was traveling with another buck. Im in northern IL, for geographic ref. This may be an isolated incident , but I would bet the bachlar groups are still 3 maybe 4 weeks from breaking down.
