Found him!

Hubby shot a buck on the 13th and the shot was to far back. There was no blood to track him and despite our efforts to try to find him we eventually gave up. Yesterday hubby got a call and it was his uncles neighbor who found out we hunt the north side of the section from where he hunts. He was setting traps and found a dead deer. It was him. He was nice enough to give him the rack. It would have been much better to find him earlier but this was still pretty awesome.

It's to bad the shot ended up so far back. He's not sure what happened if he hit a branch or what. I know after this he'll really be pushing to do more 3d shoots this summer for the practice. I'd like to set a tree stand up in the backyard and practice shooting out of it too during the off season.

loosing them sometimes happens and we feel bad but we keep on hunting because that's what we do.

You can still get it mounted, can buy a cape for him. He be about right on a 21" cape.

KD I do the same thing I have a treestand & my Blind set up in the summer & shoot from both + I will move the target to get all different angles I never think I practice enough as I have stated in the past I shoot a LOT try to shoot everyday 365 days a year it may only be 10 yards or so in the basement in bad weather or only a couple arrows if I get home late. I still missed a couple deer this year with the bow & am still rethinking those shots cant help it everytime I look at the hole in my blind point is I guess in the heat of the moment if you don't think of every little thing things can go wrong & remember 3D targets don't move & it does not take much movement on the deers part to screw up a shot. It happens

Nobody ever wants this to happen but we have to accept the fact that it does happen, We just keep on keeping on as best we can.

A new member of this past PA hunting trip hit a small 5 pt buck squarely in the shoulder. The shot was well with-in his comfort zone but bad things happen. We move on and try to fix the things we can and hopefully, bad things go away. Wounded game should always be a subject of concern for ethical hunters, it's how we react to a lost animal that makes the difference.
