Was a family thing for me. My dad, both my uncles and my cousins shot all the time, even drove all over chasing 3d shoots through the summer. I honestly didn't own a gun of any kind till I was maybe 23- 24 years old but had a compound (my first" whitetail 2") when I was around 14 I guess. N I bet for the first 5 years I would be safe to say I shot 100 plus shots a day

2 reasons-

1-More time in the woods:pickle:

2-To me it is a more pure form of hunting. Yes, compound bows are very advanced but deer still need to be close. I am not a big fan of shooting at a deer, bear, whatever, at 4,5,600 yards. Doesn't seem as sporting, in my opinion.

for me it was to get deeper into the hunt, I wanted the feeling that follows when you know you outsmarted the game animal,
shooting a game animal with a rifle at X amount of yards is not an easy task but when you have to get into close range with a Bow that's a whole different story....

Extend my hunting season The challange of the up close & personal
& thought it would make me a better hunter (didn't happen LOL)
Bow hunting actually has made me more patient & have learned a lot more about deer's habits

My dad got my brother and I involved. We had always rifle hunted, but after shooting that first deer with a bow, rifle hunting just isn't the same. My son will bow hunt from day one. He's four and already know more about deer hunting than a lot of adults.

Lost my best friend who had taken me out with him a couple times and we had always talked about going out together. A couple months after he passed I got a job payed for a bow and that's where it took off. Now I'm in my second year and look forward to every weekend in the fall.

Here is my story!
When I was younger I didn't have a stay at home dad. So I was never introduced to anything. I use to visit my cousins and they introduced me to BB guns and re-curves. I loved it. Life passed by and I never got into either. Marriage came and my 3 kids came. When my boy was 7 or 8 he was always bored. So I told him to pick something to do and we will do it together. Well he picked the most expensive thing archery and I will never regret one minute of it. Now all of us and soon the wife too, shoot target and hunt. We've been blessed to enjoy a family in archery.

I was first intoduced to hunting through a friend who was a bowhunter. I learned a lot about hunting/nature/deer through him as I would hunt with him through the year. At the end of season, he decided to give me his bow. I will be forever thankful to this man for introducing me to one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had. I still get the occasional opportunity to visit with him even though we are separated by many miles. I often think about the memories made in that first season in the woods with this awesome hunting mentor!

That was many years ago now,and that bow has been retired. It still hangs proudly among some of the mounts that the experience has brought into my home.
