Man I have stopped trying to figure out the wind a long time ago because I get so worked up worrying about it especially when I have limited time. I just go in and sit and hope for the best. Sometimes the wind is going right for me to have a good approach in but most times have not.

Wind, we all try our best to hunt knowing which direction works for a particular stand. However, and I agree with TG, sometimes you just go in and give it your best shot. I have found over many years that if you pay close attention to your scent using all the available scent control products that we become almost undetectable in the woods. I still like to hunt from hemlock and big pine trees as I can rub the natural scent right from the trees to help do a cover-up. Best advice, stay scent free as possible, use natural cover=up to camo in your stand, I use those plastic electrical ties to cinch pine limbs to my ladder stands. Oak branches, beach leaves seem to hang on the trees fairly long, any thing to help break up your outline.

with you both on this my biggest deer was taken with the wind blowing right at him I almost didn't go out that day because of the wind I did & he is hanging on my wall
since then like HM & TG I don't worry about the wind as much scent control is key will some not come in probably but you can't hunt from your couch

You got to be in it to win it.

typically my stands face the North or the West. Here in North Central Missouri the majority of winds come from those directions. Now I do have some stands that face south for those early september hunts when the south winds blow and I do even have one for the rare eastern winds we get.
