the problem with basement models is they will always be basement models. I know you have to purchase with-in your budget but please don't compare basement models with top end Brownings or Remingtons. New Savage rifles shoot well no question but there is no wow factor and their resale value is very low. So to me it's apples and oranges. It's like the person who buys a corvette over a focus, both get you to the store, which one would you like to own.
