Wind, we all try our best to hunt knowing which direction works for a particular stand. However, and I agree with TG, sometimes you just go in and give it your best shot. I have found over many years that if you pay close attention to your scent using all the available scent control products that we become almost undetectable in the woods. I still like to hunt from hemlock and big pine trees as I can rub the natural scent right from the trees to help do a cover-up. Best advice, stay scent free as possible, use natural cover=up to camo in your stand, I use those plastic electrical ties to cinch pine limbs to my ladder stands. Oak branches, beach leaves seem to hang on the trees fairly long, any thing to help break up your outline.
