I haven't shot the ruger but I have shot the savage axis in .223 it holds MOA group at 100yrds. Its a budget rifle but for hunting the barrel would hold up to it just fine. Just for warning my Savage model 11 308 is around the same weight as the axis and its kind of a shoulder thumper..The most important thing is that the gun feels good in your hands and is comfortable when in the aiming position.
