I've been looking to add a .243 to my collection. Is this too much for coyotes? Does it need to be a varmint barrel or can the occassional varmint hunter get by with a sporter barrell?

a .243 would be a very fine rifle for coyote and much more. It is one of several calibers other than military adopted calibers that I would choose to own. others would be the 6mm Rem and the .270. And yes, I am fully aware of the similarities of the 6mm and the .243.

I have a bunch of AR parts around, so perhaps building a 20-24" varmint barrel AR is the best idea. Does anyone use an AR in any other caliber (like .204 Ruger) that can give any opinions? How about an AR in .243 Winchester?
