This past season I shot a button-buck at about 100yds with my 30-06 and it didn't drop him! had to shoot him another time when I caught up to him to drop him. It's all about shot-placement. No one is perfect everytime. With a .22 you're going to have to be b/c that deer ain't going to stop after being flicked with a .22 round.
