I tried for years to get a plot to grow back in the woods, but it never worked out for me. There are a couple different things working against you there...one is the light issue, the other is the critters will feel more secure there and they will likely not give it a chance to get established before mowing it off. This was always my biggest problem back in the woods. Also it is hard to find a big enough spot. If you can only plant a half acre plot back in the woods even if it does come up good the deer and turkeys will kill it by eating it off as soon as it comes out of the ground. at least that's what happened to me. This year I moved my plot out in the open and planted about 6 acres. It is working much better than the small plots in the woods.
