In my Opininion they're extremely accurate. with the .22LR (long rifle) cartridge
You may not even need to use a scope if you're just shooting between the 50 and 70 yard range.
Along with the .22LR (long rifle) You might also want to look at the .22WMR caliber (winchester magnum rifle)
and while you're looking into the small calibers for rodents you might be interested in the newer .17 calibers also,
extremely accurate and quickly becoming as popular if not more popular than the .22's

Both calibers the .17 & the .22 are great calibers for all small to med. size game both are equally effective on Coyotes too...
