Joel, most of the catches this early will be males. I start fishing post spawn about two weeks when the fish are hungry and strength is back up. All females should be returned during the spawn, but you know how people tend to look at an empty stringer. A lot of out of state fishermen take what they can get because of the monies spent. The DNR says only about 10% of the walleyes spawn in the streams so they're not hurting the population too bad. |
