They are both good calibers. The 270 is a little flatter shooting with less recoil. The 30/06 a little more power. If you want to use lighter bullets, in the 100 grain range, go with the 270. You'll have a much higher sectional density and ballistic coefficient than with the lighter 30 calber bullets. I've had both of these calibers, and they're both great. At this stage of the game, I'm leaning just a bit towrd the 270. If your mostly hunting deer, I'd definitely recommend the 270 over the 30/06.
Heh, Ron, that .270 measures .277 not .274. Just keeping you "honest."
