I was a taxidermist for 25+ years, and here is the BEST way I know how to ship trophy deer mounts: build a wooden box using 1/4 inch (at least) plywood or something of similar strength with an interior frame made from 1 by 2 inch strips (or something similar). Use screws to assemble - not nails. Then securely screw the mount to the inside of the box - run your screws through from the outside of the box into the backboard of the mount. You might also reinforce the area of the plywood side that the screws go through. Use three good long screws for this in a triangle pattern. Then put the top on the box and you're good to go. I have shipped deer, rams, goats and even elk heads all over the country like this and never had a problem. Using foam, pop corn or anything else is not a good idea as it breaks the hairs. The idea with the box is that the heads can not move inside the box and the box protects the heads from touching anything or vice versa. Also it is possible to put two deer heads in one box if you construct it right. Good luck with your move.
