Ronn, you keep saying a poached deer is of no value. I just pasted an Ebay link in my previous post where someone is selling a whitetail Rack for $699.00 dollars. That's a nice profit I think.
All a poacher has to do is have his "TROPHY BUCK" scored and sign an affidavit and into the books it goes. It's that simple.
How is anyone ever going to know if he poached it or not? an affidavit is a formal statement of facts do you think the poacher is going to tell the actual facts on his affidavit? I mean if he's already poached a Deer wouldn't you think a few lies on an affidavit is nothing for him to sign?
I personally think that a VERY LARGE percentage of tropy's in the books have probably made their way into the record books based on a few bent truths (little Lies) I would probably guess that number to be at least 20%.
I'm not saying they went out at night with flashlights or anything that extreme but I'd bet some were shot just after legal shooting hours or some were shot just before legal shooting hours or maybe some were taken from high fenced hunts. numerous reasons I'm sure. We will never know how many shouldnt be in them record books BUT we all know some of them in there probably shouldnt be there.
