The original 798 came with a nice high-figured walnut stock. I saw one at a gun show once that was such a thing of beauty. Up here, well, I love nice wood too but since all my guns get bounced around in boats and use barnacle-encrusted rocks as steadying points, synthetic stocks are the way to go, or laminated since I'm not going to cry over a scratch or two either. Yea, I've hunted here in downpours and never had an issue with stock swell to the point of moving my point of aim but it's always a cold, cool rain with very little humidity or heat to make things affect wood too much.
