I have been debating to get a wood or synthetic stock for a Remington 870 20 gauge youth model. I want something that doesn't get damaged and lasts a long time, but I don't want it to blow me away on those slugs. So it just want it to last long and not have too much recoil.
I used to agree with Hellbilly & still do to a point my "beat around guns are synthetic & much rather have it then wood. Don't get me wrong I love wood stocks but for the thick country here in NH I got tired of scratches & dents in my wood stocks so now most of my hunting guns are synthetic
get home clean rifle & any scratches in the stock just get a quick sanding with a light scotch brite pad
Woods prettier, more aesthetic and traditional but for the qualities you listed...synthetic..
